OUR WORKSHOPS
The desire to colour and decorate the textiles we use and wear goes back millennia. Hand block printing & dyeing has a long and rich history in India and is a wonderful form of creativity, as well to make beautiful and practical items.
Our block printing & dyeing workshops are designed to introduce you to the basics of block printing from the skilled artisans at Subha and enable you to design and print your own products to take home. You will also have a tour of Subha, a bustling and contemporary commercial block printing studio.
Subha is a micro- enterprise of the Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute, SSMI, which produces high quality textiles for sale and provides vocational training to women from low-income families.
Private workshops are available for groups of 4 or more with a maximum number of 8.
Block Printing Taster Session (3 hrs.)
Timings: 10am - 1pm
You will learn about the basics of block printing and print your own practice fabric, tote bag to take home. This workshop can also be tailored to children.
Cost: ₹ 1,500 (all inclusive)

Saree Workshop (6 Hours)
Timings: 10 am - 4 pm
You will design and print your own saree from the skilled artisans at Subha. This is an advanced course offered to participants who have had a tester's workshop earlier.
Cost: ₹ 4,000. Includes the saree fabric, coloured ink, use of blocks, refreshment and lunch.

Full-day Printing Workshop (6 hours)
Timings: 10am - 4pm
You will learn about the basics of block printing from the skilled artisans at Subha, design and print your own set of table mats and napkins (2 pieces each) or an apron, matching tea towel and tote bag. If you’ve attended one before and would like to attend again we can arrange for you to print different products and progress to more complex and advanced printing techniques.

Natural Indigo Workshop
Learn dyeing with plant-based Indigo, the world's most universal and best-loved dyestuff!

The workshop will make you dive into that magical process of transforming a plain white cloth into vibrant blue shades. With a combination of traditional knowledge and modern innovations.
Cost: INR 3,000, Includes all materials, fabric, indigo dye vat, blocks, refreshments and lunch.
